Jake gave her a lazy grin. “I’m good, Mrs. Taylor. No need to worry about me.”
Mrs. Taylor frowned but decided not to press the issue. She knew Jake’s reputation, but she hoped he might surprise her and take the exam seriously for once. But as the minutes ticked by, Jake only seemed to grow more and more distracted. He doodled in the margins of his exam paper, glanced at the clock every few seconds, and occasionally snuck a look out the window.
Suddenly, at the 45-minute mark, Jake did something no one expected. He stood up, stretched dramatically, and began to walk toward the door.
“Jake! Where do you think you’re going?” Mrs. Taylor shouted, completely taken aback.
Jake turned around with a mischievous glint in his eyes and said, “I’m done, Mrs. Taylor. I’ve finished the exam. I’ll just be on my way.”
